I was fascinated/ashamed by a news article that came out two days ago discussing two new eating disorders getting attention in the health field. It's not a new issue, and this isn't the first time it has come under fire. However, the topic has been picked up and acknowledged by big-name publications like JAMA and Psychology Today, and that concerns me.
There are two disorders being talked about in this article; I took much more of an issue with the second one - orthorexia nervosa. The claim is that people suffering from this disorder exhibit behavioral patterns very similar to anorexia nervosa. People diagnosed with this condition are guilty of eating an "overly healthy" diet.
